PADDOCK RACINGĀ
I guess you could say Kris and I were born with racing in our blood. My father, William "Mutt" Tayman raced cars and tractor pulled and Kris' dad, Andrew Paddock raced motorcycles. I definitely got my competitiveness and determination to win from my dad.
I met Kris when I was 16. We would go to Maryland International Raceway every Friday night for Midnight Madness. Kris would race while I sat in the stands watching. After only a couple of times of watching Kris have all of the fun, I asked if I could try it. So, I took my brand new 1987 IROC-Z Camaro, which my parents bought me, to the track. We decided if I got good at it, he would build me a car strictly for racing. For our first year anniversary, Kris built me the car I still race today. It started out just a street car with a small block running a consistent 12.00 in the 1/4 mile. After racing every Friday night and sometimes Saturday too at Maryland International Raceway for about 5 years, the motor gave out during the year end run off for all of that seasons Midnight Madness winners.
Well it was time for us to go faster. Kris tore the whole car down and re-did the chassis and tubbed the car to accommodate a 468 big block. The car ran 10.00 on motor, but again, it still wasn't fast enough. Kris added a 2-stage nitrous oxide system system and got the car running a best of 8.80 in the 1/4 mile.
Time once again to step up. In 2007, we put a 565 Sonny Leonard big block with an Edelbrock nitrous oxide system installed by Induction Solutions in the car, and ran another best time of 8.18 @ 173 mph in the 1/4 mile. In today's heads-up racing that still isn't fast enough if you want to be competitive and win so of course we decided to purchase a brand new Scott Merkel 632 big block for the 2008 season.
We have raced from New Hampshire all the way down to Florida and as far west as Chicago. In the future we plan on doing a lot more traveling abroad.
On another note, we love animals. We have 3 dogs - a Chihuahua named Speed Racer, a Jack Russell Mix named Renegade and an Australian Shepherd named Chevy. We also have a few cats as well - Kitty, Smokey, Torque, Spook, Red, Mickey Thompson, Wilson, Baby Tom, Reese, Turbo, Nitro, Storm and Outlaw. We've also been inside a cage with a white Bengal tiger. Oh and I also had a baby tiger on my lap while sitting in my race car.
